|From the Chaplain's Corner:|
Have you been wondering why there seems to be so much havoc and disasters in the world around us? Does it seem like those circumstances are out of control? Everywhere we look there are wars, earthquakes, famines, hurricanes, tsunamis, and other such disasters that bring enormous human suffering and loss of life. It's surely enough to cause one to through up one's hand in utter hopelessness. Is anyone charge out there?
There is no cause for alarm; things are not out of control. This was predicted in the bible some two thousand years ago. In the gospel of Matthew, God's own Son gave us a description of the final days--the end of the age. Jesus said, "For nations will arise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. But all these thing are merely the beginning . . ." (Matthew 24:7-8).
Truly, we have seen an increase in wars and devastating so-called "natural disaster" that appear to come from nowhere at various times and places. Yes, there have been literally hundreds of thousands men, women, and children lost to such destruction. The human misery is almost beyond description.
Yet, I see another side to all of this human misery. Mankind, being made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), we possess His enormous capacity for love and concern.
There has been, in all of this disasters, a tremendous outpouring of generosity and help. Perhaps, this is one of God's ways of bringing this nation back together. Nothing brings people together like common difficulties. These disasters have caused others to focus more on others than on themselves. It helps us forget for awhile the things that cause us pain.
The Chaplain's Corner wants to provide this same kind of support and encouragement to those of you who read it. Whatever your needs may be, I would like to help you deal with it through prayer and encouragement. And, if you would like to be of help to others, let me know.
Blessings to each of you.
