Disabled Combat Veteran releases Skateboard Deck to raise money for Veterans
MAJ(R) Don "Lash" LaRue made a very long career in the Army, first as an Enlisted Soldier and then as an Officer, until he was blown-up by 2 IED's in Iraq. He is a very upbeat individual who cares more about others than himself, not something you see much of these days. Lash was once a professional skateboarder for Zorlac (now Embassy Skateboards) out of Texas. Lash is still representing skateboarding to younger generations to this day. He sponsors many kids throughout the community with skateboards, pads, helmets etc...as well as many Veteran Organizations. When he was asked by Embassy Skateboards about designing a skateboard deck, Lash was very excited and wanted the proceeds from the skateboard decks to go to the Green Beret Foundation and the Wounded Warrior Project. Both of these are close to his heart as he was a Green Beret and is a Wounded Warrior. While I have only known him a few months I consider him my brother. He has always been there to lend a hand or an ear whenever anyone needed it without any thought of return. Please take the time to support a great cause and a great warrior in the fight to help our disabled veterans.

Here are some words from "Lash" himself

Please consider buying one of these for yourself, your kids, your neighbors kids, and please pass this around...I was a Pro Skateboarder in the 80's for a company called Zorlac. The company has evolved into Embassy Skateboards. They have put out a patriotic tribute model called the "Lash LaRue Street Fighter". This is a non-profit board and the proceeds will be donated to the "Wounded Warrior Project" and the "Green Beret Foundation" which provides scholarships for children of Army Special Ops soldiers who have given their lives in battle. I will autograph any deck with any number or military unit if desired. Thanks for helping us help those who defend our freedom! Here is a link to the order section of the store, and if you look around the website you will find me in the "Team" section. Even though Iraq put an end to many of my activities, I still ride!

Please pass this around for all Veterans, Veteran families, and skaters!

Respectfully, lash

ATTENTION TO THOSE WITH GLIOBLASTOMAS

I would like to “Welcome” the newest member of VVW, Eileen Perkins.  Mrs. Perkins' husband, a combat Vietnam veteran, recently passed away from a glioblastoma. Like many of us, who have lost their husbands, know the frustration of why the VA has not accepted this ailment as a service connected disability.  She has offered her services, as a liaison, to record other’s who have lost their loved one to a glioblastoma.

Sometimes it takes the “numbers” for the VA to recognize a sickness is due to Agent Orange/Dioxin so it can be accepted and awarded as a service connected disability.

VVW is asking all those who wish to join in the fight to get this service connected, and have either lost or presently have a loved one who has this ailment, to please contact Mrs. Perkins.

She can be contacted by clicking here.

"UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL AND IN NUMBERS WE ARE HEARD!"

VVW wanted to share some information that was sent to us from Mrs. Eileen Perkins concerning the connection between Glio's and Agent Orange exposure.

The committee to review the health effects in Vietnam Veterans of exposure to Herbicides(Fourth Biennial Update) Project Scope:The committee will conduct a review of scientific evidence regarding statistical associations between diseases and exposure to dioxin and other chemical compounds in herbicides used in Vietnam. This review will build upon the information developed by the IOM committees responsible for Veterans and Agent Orange(1994), Veterans and Agent Orange: Update 1996, Veterans and Agent Orange: Update 1998, and Veterans and Agent Orange: Update 2000. But will focus on the scientific studies and other information developed since the release of those reports. The committee will also conduct an extensive dissemination effort intended to help inform the Department of Veterans Affairs and other interested stakeholders, including the U.S. Congress.

Press Release
October 18, 2001VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION VIETNAM WAR BIOLOGICAL TESTS WASHINGTON, D.C.---Vietnam Veterans of America national president Thomas H. Corey expressed the organization’s deep concern upon learning that the U.S. government used live biological agents on Vietnam War veterans in a series of experiments designed to test the military's ability to deal with such agents, according to a Pentagon fact sheet provided to VVA.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder interview

The Veterans Administration is treating nearly 16,000 troops who served in Iraq and Afghanistan for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). As combat in Iraq and Afghanistan stretches on, the VA says the number of PTSD cases could sky rocket. The World's Katy Clark reports on the VA's controversial decision to review the diagnostic criteria for PTSD. Lisa Mullins also speaks with Colonel Elspeth Ritchie, a military psychiatrist with the Office of the Army Surgeon-General in Falls Church, Virginia, to find out what services are available to service men and women on active duty and suffering from stress disorders.
A CALL FOR CARE PACKAGES

Soldiers fighting in Afghanistan are in need of your help. They seem to have been forgotten in all the goings on in Iraq. Care packages of non-parishable food items are needed as well as items such as shaving cream, disposable razors, chewing gum, real toilet paper and other luxuries we take for granted here. This has come to us as a special request from our Special Forces in the hunt for Osama Ben Laden. This is a time for you to reach out and touch someone, please put a box together and get it in the mail as soon as possible.

The mailing address for care packages is:
John Lemke

VVW/NVC thanks all who step up to help our men and women overseas.
